    Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)

    The mission of AASHE is to inspire and catalyze higher education to lead the global sustainability transformation. As a member of AASHE, Florida A&M participates in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™ (STARS) program, a transparent, self-reporting framework for higher education to track, monitor and gauge their relative progress toward sustainability. STARS™ tracks sustainability advancements in academics, planning & administration, engagement, operation and innovation. FAMU SI maintains an institutional membership wtih AASHE, which extends special access to all AASHE resources to every individual with a university email address. Learn more about AASHE at

  • American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC)

    American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC)

    The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) is a high-visibility effort to address global climate disruption undertaken by a network of colleges and universities that have made institutional commitments to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions from specified campus operations, and to promote the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate. ACUPCC institutions have agreed to: Complete an emissions inventory. Within two years, set a target date and interim milestones for becoming climate neutral. Take immediate steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by choosing from a list of short-term actions. Integrate sustainability into the curriculum and make it part of the educational experience.     The Florida Climate Institute (FCI) is a multi-disciplinary network of national and international research and public organizations, scientists, and individuals concerned with achieving a better understanding of climate variability and change. The FCI has eight member universities – Florida A&M University (FAMU); Florida Atlantic University (FAU); Florida International University (FIU); Florida State University (FSU); the University of Central Florida (UCF); the University of Florida (UF); the University of Miami (UM); and the University of South Florida (USF) – and is supported by relevant colleges, centers, and programs at these universities.     Sustainable Tallahassee & Capital Area Sustainability Council

    The purpose of the Capical Area Sustainability Council is to serve as a clearing house for the exchange of ideas and information, to promote collaboration and cooperation on sustainability projects and issues, and to eliminate or reduce duplication of effort among the participants. The council is made up of representatives from Leon County, the City of Tallahassee, Leon County Cooperative Extension, the Leon County Public Schools, Florida A&M University, Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College, the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Council, Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), Tall Timbers, and the Tallahassee Builders Association.     India’s National Council for Climate Change, Sustainable Development & Public Leadership (NCCSD)

    FAMU, through the Sustainability Institute, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with NCCSD, the premier organization in India charged with promoting sustainable livelihood, mitigating impacts of global warming through appropriate use of agriculture and involving public leadership in that task.
