Summer 2015 Interns

Christianah Oyenuga – Graduate Summer Fellow

christianah profileChristianah Oyenuga is a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Policy and Risk Management at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), and a Delores Auzenne Fellow at FAMU. She received her Master of Science degree in Chemistry from FAMU and her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Microbiology from Texas Tech University. Christianah is interested in the nexus between our ecosystems and human well-being in an effort to promote sustainable resource management, build the capacity of vulnerable communities to mitigate and adapt to climate related impacts, and synthesize communication and educational tools for vulnerable populations. Christianah helps the Sustainability Institute to develop campus engagement programs and initiatives that spread awareness about sustainability and promote and resource stewardship.

Simone English – Graduate Summer Fellow

simone profileSimone English is currently a doctoral candidate at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) School of the Environment with a concentration in Environmental Policy and Risk Management. Prior to the Ph.D. program, Simone completed a Masters in Architecture degree at FAMU School of Architecture and Engineering Technology (SAET) in 2010. Her main research interest is in the adverse impacts of a changing climate on marginalized and vulnerable groups and how to mitigate against them. Her dream is to provide assistance in the development and or rebuilding of resilient communities for marginalized people, as well as displaced victims of natural and man-made disasters while promoting environmental education, advocacy and awareness. Simone helps the Sustainability Institute to develop campus engagement programs and initiatives that spread awareness about sustainability and promote and resource stewardship.

Nicholas Miller - Sustainable Investments Intern

nick profile picNicholas is a professional MBA candidate hailing from the flourishing city of Huntsville, AL. During his time at Florida A&M University he has immersed himself in a diverse range of activities. Nicholas has served as both president and vice president of the National Association of Black Accountants, currently serves as Vice Polemarch of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, and is a student ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Food Science. He has completed corporate internships with Coca-Cola Refreshments, Tropicana Products, and International Paper Co. His latest role brings him to the FAMU Sustainability Institute as a Sustainable Investments Intern. Nicholas’ personal motto is “Greatness Never Fails.” As he continues to expand his knowledge in the field of sustainability, Nicholas seeks to combine his business administration and agribusiness education in a career that will help him positively impact his community, the environment, and the world at large.

Khadijah Johnson – Communications Intern

khadijah profileKhadijah Johnson is a senior broadcast journalism student in the school of journalism and graphic communication. She has been involved in organizations devoted to journalism and broadcast since her tenure here at the university. Khadijah has been a floor director of FAMU TV-20 News at Five, correspondent for the Famuan, historian of the FAMU Association of Black Journalists, had a health and fitness webcast for Franchise Sports, and has been an anchor for Campus Rec TV in the FAMU Recreation Center. Khadijah also briefly left FAMU to join the United States Army Reserve as a combat medic, and is currently serving a six-year contract with the military. As a communications intern here at the sustainability institute, Khadijah plans to not only enhance her journalistic skills as a writer, but also strengthen her knowledge and familiarity on environmental sustainability.
