"Art, in all its forms, is the Universe expressing itself through human experience and discipline."
The “Art of Sustainability” initiative recognizes and celebrates the interdisciplinary nature of achieving ecological balance by using art to express Sustainability with Global Connections. The initiative brings the campus community together to co-create special design projects that bridge art, science and the humanities. This year, Artist in Residence Courtnay Micots, encourages and incorporates innovative teaching and research into her Art Appreciation classes, designs a campus-wide art competition with the exhibition to be held in spring 2017, and culminates with 16 students traveling to West Africa for six weeks in the Ghana Study Abroad Program – Art & Sustainability in Summer A 2017 (http://www.famu.edu/GhanaStudyAbroad). These initiatives will support cultural and artistic exchange, nurture appreciation, experimentation and new ideas, and support research and the development of creative work.
